What is a Social Enterprise?

A social enterprise is a business created to address a social need. In addition to meeting a growing demand for made-in-the-US manufacturing with high-quality textile production, Open Arms trains and employs refugees living in the Austin area.

  • We offer free, advanced industrial sewing training for refugees who pass a skills assessment and are interested in employment.

  • We offer refugee-specific life skills support & training to our staff in areas such as English-as-a-Second-Language, computer literacy and financial literacy.

  • We hire qualified refugee staff, even if they have low English proficiency.

Open Arms Studio is one of three social enterprises operated by parent nonprofit, the Multicultural Refugee Coalition.
